Vince Gilligan Shares He Has an Idea of How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... Currently.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that Pluribus would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter already in development—the creative team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

One could easily to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and online debates surrounding Pluribus. He is doing his best to avoid both.

“It feels like an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Does the creator Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the writers are not listening by audience theories, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” he states. “but we are always ready to abandon a solid concept for a better idea. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
