Tom Clancy's The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG

The intense world of Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a dice-based role-playing experience. A collaboration was established to create a TTRPG set within the franchise’s apocalyptic landscape. The project was revealed, with a funding drive scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026.

"This project aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the table, offering fans a fresh avenue to experience The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," states an official release.

Launch products are set to feature a beginner's box, essential manuals, a GM screen, miniatures, and several premium versions.

Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World

In this universe, a deadly virus known as Green Poison was released in NYC, plunging the United States into turmoil. As the pandemic escalates, civil order breaks down and hostile groups rise, turning the urban landscape into a battlefield. To preserve order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of undercover operatives. This is where the agents enter the story.

Work on the game has been in progress for approximately three years, and it is reportedly finished. The forthcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a preorder system to access a broader market, specifically in North America. Production will start immediately following the campaign, with deliveries expected for the latter part of 2026.

A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System

An early look at the game's rules reveals it uses d10s predominantly through its proprietary GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and strategic approach. Agents use skills or traits to roll a handful of dice, usually between one and five d10s.

  • Instead of adding results together, participants select a single “result die” from the group.
  • This dice is then compared against a set challenge number.
  • Achieving a natural 10 grants special effects, such as increased harm or boosted support.

Engagements Focus On Tactical Placement and Awareness

Battles stress positioning and situational awareness, reflecting the source material. Elements like cover, elevation, or visibility have a direct impact dice rolls. This mechanic seems built to reward teamwork and clever tactics over raw numbers.

A Novel Wound Mechanic

The way injuries is tracked introduces a compelling thematic twist. Operatives have a wound threshold; sustaining too much damage reduces their capabilities by lowering the size of their dice pool.

  1. At zero health, an operative collapses, but they’re not unconscious.
  2. They can still crawl and take limited actions, emulating the last stand common to many shooter games.
  3. Any agent knocked down must consult a trauma table, potentially gaining persistent effects like shock or mobility-impairing wounds.

A Ready-to-Play Adventure

A free Quickstart Guide is promised soon. It includes a ready-to-play starting adventure titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, the group spearhead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and must thwart an attack by the violent Rikers gang, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the complete product lineup will be detailed closer to the Kickstarter start date.
