This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

While perhaps not at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, provided by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
