The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family navigate their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to evolve comedy past its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
