The musician contributes £25,000 award winnings to grassroots concert halls

Sam Fender received the honor in October in Newcastle

The star has donated the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to preserve the Britain's small live music spots.

He was presented with the award on 16 October as his third album his work was declared the top album of the past year.

The musician has opted to give the cash to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots played in his beginning days.

"I personally wouldn't be doing this success if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the area, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – about 16% of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its attempts to support the industry, by adding a modest fee to their admission fees, which goes to help independent venues.

He also joined in, raising in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to support thirty-eight local spots across the UK.

The donation assisted locations that were dealing with potential shutdown due to challenges caused by water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Other venues obtained financial assistance in improving facilities and sound and lighting systems that helped musicians and audiences.

"The notion that money from concerts in big venues backs the local stages, where it all starts for performers like me, is just common sense," the star has said.

He is not the first artist to contribute his honor funds to good deeds.

Back when Pulp won the award in the mid-90s for their album their work, frontman Jarvis Cocker stated that the group would give their cash to the non-profit War Child.

During 2002, artist she shared her prize among multiple organizations, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I gave a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked better apparatus," she told outlets.

Previously, Ezra Collective gave their winnings to the youth organization that developed their group, as well as other local music groups.

And winners that year M People gave their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was diagnosed the disease.

"Winning was quite enough," said vocalist the singer. "The cash was the bonus but we could do without the bonus, because we had the honor. So our success impacted another person's life."

Recently, the MVT revealed it had rescued a couple of grassroots venues in that region, by transferring them to local control.

One venue in that area and the other in Bristol were bought under the community ownership initiative, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who buy "ownership units" in the venues.
