The esteemed football figure has made clear that he is not pursuing a comeback in football management, pointing out that it would be tough to match the unique sense of purpose he felt as the national team coach.

The former coach suggested his intention to channel his attention toward engaging the next generation and addressing what he called a widespread pessimistic outlook presently existing in the country.

Pursuing Different Paths Outside of The Sport

In a recent radio interview, he was questioned on speculation linking him with open coaching positions in the English football and elsewhere.

“Leading my country gave my work in football a deeper meaning and purpose,” he responded. “That’s going to be very hard to replicate. Having had 37 years in football I’m enjoying finding other areas where I think I might be able to make a difference.”

A Passion for Positive Examples

Ahead of the publication of his upcoming book, his new work on leadership, Southgate shared that he is “very passionate” about providing role models for teenagers, utilizing lessons from his time as England’s men’s football manager between 2016 and 2024, as well as his personal family life.

The leader believes that his time coaching England, during which the team evolved from being widely disliked to greatly admired, holds wider relevance.

“We had a huge disconnect with the public when we started,” he explained. “The public viewed the players as egotistical, yet we successfully reversed that image. The squad’s ability to connect diverse communities was truly powerful.”

Raising Children and Guiding Young People

Speaking from his experience as a father, the coach remarked: “Parents strive to offer their children a great beginning, but eventually, kids tune out. My household is no different, but I’m convinced this is a vital focus for society.”

He added: “A downbeat tone surrounds the nation now, and it’s essential to provide hope and advice to the younger generation. While talent abounds, accessing suitable mentors and peer networks is crucial, since these factors heavily influence lifelong outcomes.”

Togetherness Beyond Discord

He insisted that “what brings the nation together outweighs what pulls it apart” but that the public discourse often emphasizes disagreement.

“One can see why many feel disillusioned,” he stated. “Economically lots of places are in tough situations now and that’s going to prompt desires for change. But I have seen the ability to unite the country. I saw during Covid people doing shopping for the neighbours and that’s when we as a nation are at our best, when we’ve been pushed into a corner and come out and shown resilience.”

The manager’s forthcoming book, the book Dear England, is expected to offer further insights on management and public spirit drawn from his notable professional journey.
