The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Famed for Creating Looks for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.

Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the pastel suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

This news arrives just weeks after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in shaping body-hugging looks established him as a "genuine original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.
