Supporters Demand Custody of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of Ariana Grande are calling for that a man who jumped a fence and touched the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A circulating clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the performers proceeded down a promenade surrounded by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being arrested", though court documents revealed that he was due to attend court on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
Record of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram feed includes videos of him interrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney performance in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last year.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is clearly a legal violation," stated an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Voice Worry Over the Star's Past Trauma
Several followers blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented another comment on Instagram.
A number of fans also faulted event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others called for digital services to remove Mr Wen's content.
Response and Premiere Information
In footage spreading on the internet, Grande seemed shocked when she was approached by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of supporters had congregated in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had waited for as long as many hours before it began.
The film, to be launched on 21 November, is the second of a two-film version of the acclaimed theatrical musical Wicked, which revolves around the surprising relationship between two very different witches.
The show itself is a derivative of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a rosé sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen Oscar nominations, securing a pair for outstanding attire and set decoration.
