Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending corner approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
