Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is uncertain and the US has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with notable success and destroyed a number of missiles," it added.

The statement noted debris landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
