Information Available About the Victims of the Bondi Beach Shooting
No fewer than 16 individuals perished and in excess of 40 were wounded when attackers opened fire at a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident local authorities have labeled a terrorist attack.
According to the most recent information, officials have stated the death toll is 16, which includes one of the alleged attackers. Additionally, 42 people with injuries were taken to hospital.
Those who died are still awaiting formally identified, but authorities state their ages range between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Known as a father-of-five, he was the associate rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Family members and acquaintances remembered him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a relative asked.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their newest son just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, as stated by his wife.
She told the moments before the attack, stating they had been standing together when the gunfire began. “He shielded me because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.
The couple were both Holocaust survivors, having endured immense hardship in their youth. They had later relocated to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
French foreign ministry have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.
Publicly, a senior official expressed that France mourned with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This cowardly attack is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must put a stop to,” the message read.
One Child
A child who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, police have confirmed.
One Israeli Citizen
One victim from Israel was also killed in the incident, as per reports citing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
From the 42 people taken to hospital, a significant number are still receiving treatment, with five in serious condition. Those hurt comprise two police officers who responded to the attack.
A wounded man is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the attackers. Described as a local hero, he received bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. It has been reported he was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.
In a message, he recounted the incident as an “horrific scene,” but also noted the actions of those who rushed to help. He stated he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the attack. He said he listened to “a large number” of shots.
“Initially, I believed it was something less lethal, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I sustained a gunshot wound. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
