Golden sun, savory pies and iconic stadiums - what more could an England cricket fan ask for?

Well, perhaps an Ashes series in Australia where they remain in contention to secure the famous trophy after the first three Tests.

This is not the case on this occasion, however, after a comprehensive victory by 82 runs in Adelaide put the hosts with a 3-0 lead for the fourth consecutive series on home turf.

The Barmy Army, England's supporters' group, have thousands of supporters traveling for the last two matches in Sydney and Melbourne.

There are also tour groups who will be vacationing overseas, as well as families and friends planning a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Fans with Booked Tickets

A group of four supporters are four such fans.

The group had their travel arrangements and match passes arranged for the fourth and fifth Tests "well ahead of time", hoping to witness a rare England series success.

Instead, they have watched Australia defeat England convincingly in just 11 days from their family home in their hometown.

"Everyone at work has been teasing me about it being over for the last two weeks," commented one sibling.

"We always thought that we would have the series on the line still when we got there."

Diminishing Hope

Hope was abundant concerning a potential victory of ending their 15-year wait for a triumph on Australian soil prior to the first ball.

Yet now they are staring down the barrel of extending their winless run in the country to 19 consecutive Tests when the next match starts in the MCG on Christmas Day.

The England team - and their followers - will be hoping to sidestep a dreaded 5-0 scoreline.

One sibling noted the "excitement and fun" of head coach Brendon McCullum's 'Bazball' in the past couple of seasons had "reinvigorated" the longest format for England fans.

However, the group said they had low expectations for the final two games - and all they are asking for from the players is "a bit of fight".

"Every pundit references this, but it all is about psychological strength. 'This style has been become a phrase now that is just, like, unrealistic play," added Rory.

"In a five-day Test match, you should apply yourself. Playing at deliveries 'outside the line has never featured in the coaching manuals, and that is primarily due to the batting lineup."

Looking Ahead

When questioned if he believed England will win a match in this contest, came the reply: "The evidence suggests the Australians are superior right now."

"Necessarily, there must be several individuals that delivers for the team and makes a big impact."

Despite the scoreline, the group remains looking forward to the trip.

"It will be a great time anyway," added another sibling. "Our approach is that outlook."

"Obviously it is unfortunate we can't contest the series, but we have invested a significant amount as it is."

"We plan to savor celebrating the holidays overseas. Additionally, it's mine and Rory's first time abroad at this time of year."

A teacher, Katie is determined to make the most of the long-haul travel as part of her seasonal break.

"If all else fails, there's always golf to fall back on," she added.
