Zelenskyy States Nation's Survival Depends on Allies
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in a recent discussion that the country's survival relied on receiving additional financial aid from allies.
“We trust, God bless, we will get the necessary funding,” he stated to reporters. Otherwise, “We will have to find another solution, it concerns our surviving. That’s why it is essential urgently. We rely on our allies.”
EU Commission Pushes for €140 Billion Compensation Funding
The EU executive continues to aim to convince member states – and Belgium, which continues to bloc the plan amid legal fears – to move ahead on a €140 billion reparations loan based on Moscow's immobilized funds.
EU chief Ursula von der Leyen insisted today that it would be “the optimal method to sustain Ukraine’s defence and national finances.”
Decision Postponed Until Year-End Summit
A definitive resolution on the issue has been postponed until the EU leaders’s summit in December, with the funding needed early next year.
Talks Coincide with Corruption Scandal in Ukraine
But the talks come at a difficult time for Ukraine, as the president had to move to contain rising popular anger in Ukraine over a bribery incident in the energy sector, firing several officials who are accused of participating in a large-scale bribery scheme.
Danish economic affairs minister Stephanie Lose was asked about her reaction to the allegations, and insisted that there was determination to keep aiding Ukraine.
“Naturally, The country will have to continuously work with improvements, reinforcing all parts of their society [and] that also applies to anti-corruption … but it is clear that there’s a strong European support with Kyiv,” she stated.
Additional EU Events Monitored
Separately, analysts will be keeping an eye on Holland where the parliament convenes to examine possible directions in the coalition talks, the Italy-Albania consultations in the Italian capital giving us the most recent opportunity to witness the remarkable leadership interplay, and a series of top-tier meetings across Europe, including the Alliance's Mark Rutte’s visit to a military installation in Germany.
Much to cover.
